On International Women’s Day, Chillon Castle and the Office for Gender Equality of the Canton of Vaud are celebrating women of yesterday and today with a festive and convivial day.

  • Round tables: ‘The female knights of culture: heroines of yesterday, actresses of today’
    Attend our themed round tables, which invite you to reflect on the contribution of women to culture, both yesterday and today.

    • 10:15 a.m.: Welcome remarks
    • 10:30-11:30 a.m. Women in charge: managers of heritage sites and castles
    • 1:15-2:15 p.m. – Guardians of memory: curators, historians and architects
    • 3:15-4:15 p.m. – Rediscovered heroines: rehabilitating women in historical narratives
  • Meet the Ladies of Chillon
    Take your family on a journey in the footsteps of the women of Chillon, brought to life by our guides stationed at various iconic locations around Chillon.
  • Embroidery workshop
    Go beyond the cliché and (re)discover embroidery as a decorative art, but above all as a form of expression, the thread of a thought, a story, a narrative.
  • Female knights: forget the damsel in distress
    In the history of powerful women, some took up arms. Rare and long ignored, they fought in armour in the Middle Ages and challenged clichés. Meet some remarkable female figures and discover how, today, women are perpetuating this martial art by practising contemporary medieval combat.
