Bonne of Berry

Bonne of Berry (c. 1365/67-1435) / Amadeus VII (1360-1391)

The French influence over the Countship of Savoy grew in 1377 when the future Amadeus VII married Bonne of Berry, the eldest daughter of John of Berry (1340-1416), brother of King Charles V of France (1338-1380). Their union produced three children, including the future Amadeus VIII. Upon the death of her husband, Bonne of Berry entered into a conflict with Bonne of Bourbon, who emerged victorious in 1393. Bonne of Berry was cast out of the House of Savoy and married the Count of Armagnac (c. 1360-1418).

She left Savoy to be with her new husband, with whom she went on to have four children. She was widowed for the second time in 1418 and did not remarry, since she was no longer of child-bearing age.
