Blanche of Burgundy

Blanche of Burgundy (c. 1288-1348) / Edward (1284-1329)

On Amadeus V’s death, his eldest son, Edward, became count. In 1307, he married Blanche of Burgundy, princess of the Capetian House of Burgundy and granddaughter to the King of France, Saint Louis (1214 – 1270). Only one child, Joan (c. 1310-1344), was born of this union. Upon the death of her father in 1329, Joan was bypassed in the line of succession in favour of her uncle Aymon of Savoy.

Blanche remained a widow and lived very comfortably, despite her struggles with her brother-in-law over her dower. History points towards her role as a patron in the book, Les Heures de Savoie (Savoy Hours), which depicts her praying before Christ and the Virgin Mary.
