Christmas at the castle

As winter approaches, Chillon Castle is decking the halls with magnificent decorations! You’re invited to travel back in time to the fantastical Middle Ages, over three special weekends: 2-3, 9-10 and 16-17 December. We have a fabulous programme lined up to enchant little ones and grown-ups alike!

Soak up the magical atmosphere of our Christmas tree forest and take part in one of our many festive workshops and events – all in the company of some friendly faces.

This winter, the castle will be filled with laughter, surprises and excitement, courtesy of our jugglers and performing artists, while our whirling medieval circle of dancers will warm your heart to the rhythm of ancestral melodies. As for your little ones, they can say hello to the donkeys and rabbits cosied up in the fourth courtyard. You can also enjoy the sounds of the choir in the chapel, make your own Advent wreath and hear wonderful Christmas tales from our storytellers.

Artisans will be dotted around various rooms of the ancient fortress. If you like to get your hands dirty, why not give pottery a go? They’ll show you how to make your very own beeswax candles, or an archery bow. You can even try out a medieval recipe for ‘hypocras’ – an ancient, spiced wine – over the log fire! You’ll learn the stories behind the spices, games and way of life at the castle.

At the heart of the Bernese Garden, a blacksmith straight out of the Middle Ages will show you the secrets of fire and metal. Once you’ve sharpened your weapons – and if you’re feeling brave enough – you can take on the knights and warrior princesses! Who knows? Maybe they’ll teach you a thing or two…

To round off your visit in style, why not treat yourself to a mulled wine or a spiced tea? Café Byron will be open throughout the festivities for a tasty pit-stop or a delicious meal, with a must-see sculpture on ice display taking place on the restaurant terrace on 2 December.

This event is in partnership with Montreux Noël.
