School groups must be accompanied and led by their teachers for the visit of the castle and any school projects inside the monument.
The children are under their full responsibility.
During the high season from May to September Chillon Castle welcomes up to 2,000 visitors a day!
For the preservation of this 800 year old historical monument (remembering that first and foremost Chillon Castle is a museum), and to assure an optimal visit for all, we kindly ask you to:
Respect other visitors by being calm and discreet, the castle and its collections.
Avoid noise, talking too loudly, using radios, cell phones and other machines.
Stay together: students should never be alone.
Do not run inside the castle.
Do not write anywhere on the monument.
Do not touch the objects on display.
Do not eat within the castle itself.
Throw all trash in the containers provided.
Leave your backpacks and other bags in the cloakroom in the cafeteria. Some lockers can be locked, open storage areas are unattended.
Classes must make their request in advance in writing using the on-line reservation form, mentioning the arrival time, number of participants, along with the school’s complete coordinates.
Be aware that if you plan your class outing in May, June or July, we highly recommend you contact us as quickly as possible so as to assure the dates and times of your choice. These months are extremely busy.
If at all possible, we suggest you schedule your next visit to the castle before mid-May or in the autumn. From June to September, the castle often seems to be under attack by the numerous visitors! It is also a good idea to avoid the busiest times.
Time of your visit
To discover the castle in optimal conditions, we encourage you to target the following times:
Morning 09:00 to 10:00
Midday: 12:00 to 13:00
Afternoon: after 16:00
A small canteen offers drink-vending machines.
You may also picnic, and even swim at the beach adjacent to the castle, where there are toilet and shower facilities.
In the event of bad weather, we suggest picnicking under the covered marketplace in Montreux.
It is forbidden to picnic inside the castle itself.
Please note: All treasure hunts or rallies held at the castle as part of a visit must be authorised in advance.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation and wish you an enjoyable visit!
