For the first time, the construction site in Chillon is opening its doors to our visitors. The professionals who have been working on this project will share their expertise with the public.
For the first time, the construction site is opening its doors to our visitors. Since the first stone was laid on 6 December 2018, architects, archaeologists, engineers, stonemasons and other artisans have been working in the public eye to build the future Café Byron and to renovate the Chillon Castle gardens.
Join them in exploring the construction site before the inauguration in spring 2020, and take this opportunity to reconnect with the impressive history behind our ancient fortress!
Programme from 2pm:
1. Café Byron Pavilion: Dreier Frenzel Architecture + Communication, contract winner and firm managing the English Garden project complete with pavilions and exterior works, represented by architect, Eik Frenzel.
2 Parvis: Chillon Castle Foundation, represented by Bernard Verdon - EPF-SIA architect, project manager for the Canton of Vaud Directorate-General for buildings and heritage (DGIP), President of the Chillon Castle Technical Commission - and Marta dos Santos, Director of the Chillon Castle Foundation and historian.
3. Baroque garden: Chillon Castle Foundation, represented by Antoine Graf, architect at Graf & Rouault Architectes, the firm managing the restoration and maintenance works at Chillon Castle.
4. External gardens: L'Atelier du Paysage Jean_Yves Le Baron, co-provider of external works for the English Garden project, represented by Pierre-André Tassain, landscape architect.
For the curious few, why not take a guided tour? Discover the history behind the 11th-century construction of the keep, along with its restoration at the beginning of the 20th century.
