The museums in the Montreux-Vevey area have decided to work together by setting up the Association of Museums of the Vaudois Riviera (AMRV). The association has developed a promotional strategy for the museums of the Vaudois Riviera as their own cultural entity, as the museums in Geneva and Lausanne have done.
This strategy is based on organising common events, such as «PâKOMUZé», «Museums Night» or «Going to museums as a family», that offer the public privileged access to creative activities, either through contact with artists or workshops to learn particular techniques.
The members of the Association are:
Villa "Le Lac" Le Corbusier
Swiss Camera Museum
Musée Jenisch Vevey
Alimentarium - Food Museum
Vevey History Museum
Vevey Winegrowers Museum
Swiss Games Museum
Blonay-Chamby Railway Museum
Montreux Museum
NEST
and
Chillon Castle
The Association of Museums of the Vaudois Riviera’s action complements the actions of the member’s themselves enabling them to build up their commitment to art and culture. The majority of the region’s museums are not big enough to have the necessary infrastructures available for implementing large-scale promotions or activities such as the Association can offer.
The Association also encourages contacts between member of staff of each institution, especially receptionists and caretakers/security personnel. These contacts can enhance the feeling of belonging to a group and of sharing experiences through meetings held on a regular basis. They include a museum tour, as well as training and further training courses in visitor services, conflict management, etc.
The Association receives financial support from the Fonds Culturel Riviera, the Canton Vaud and the Montreux-Vevey Tourist Office, from funds collected through the daily visitors tax. The eleven institutions also contribute by a yearly membership fee.
