In this room, now dedicated to Peter II of Savoy (1203 – 1268), the displays show the dynastic power of the family and the State of Savoy.
Two exhibits provide evidence of Little Charlemagne’s importance in 13th century Europe and show the expansion of the House of Savoy’s lands over time.
This room accomodated guests during the Savoy period.
The lower parts of the walls are painted in grey against a white background (1587). Above, very significant remains of designs painted in the 13th century can be seen. The partition was rebuilt in 1921.
Collaboration between Chillon Castle and the Castle of Ripaille with the support of the Interreg Fund
Thirty kilometres is not very far! But a lake and an international border separate the two castles of Chillon and Ripaille, which were previously linked by a common history – the history of the House of Savoy. Both are today cultural and historical focal points, and they have chosen to develop new relations, even create collaborative ties.
They have put together a project called « Chillon and Ripaille: two jewels of the Savoy civilization». This project has benefited from the support of the Interreg IV A France – Switzerland Fund. On 8 June 2011 interlinked museography projects were inaugurated, the one concerning Peter II of Savoy at Chillon, and the other conversely dedicated to Amédée VIII at Ripaille.
