9th of September 2010 – Yodelling at Chillon with Nadja Räss and Stimmreise.ch

Chillon Castle will welcome one of the leading figures of Swiss yodelling, Nadja Räss from the Canton of Schwyz. Accompanied by the trio of Dani Häusler (clarinet), Marc Scheidegger (guitar) and Richard Hugener (bass), she forges her own way between tradition and innovation, joyfully renewing this ancestral form of musical expression.

After completing music studies at the Zurich Fine Arts College, where she qualified to be a singing teacher, Nadja Räss began a rich artistic collaboration with the three musicians. Under the name Stimmreise.ch, they bring to life the old “Naturjodel”, melodies without words but full of colour and emotions. In 2007, they went on tour covering venues from Vienna to Moscow and they have put out a CD of their work.

At the same time, Nadja Räss has performed with the accordionist from Nidwald Canton Raita Gabriel Schaub. They have made 2 CDs together: Handglismet in 2006 and Wortlos in 2009.

Along with her performances, Nadja Räss also does some teaching, and is enthusiastic in joining both adult and children’s classes. She has developed a yodelling teaching manual that will be published this year, and the first part of the “Jodel-Literatur für Anfänger” collection came out in the autumn of 2008 (Mülirad.Verlag, Altdorf).

Chillon Castle cannot forget tht it was Bernese for 260 years. Nadja Räss and the Stimmereise’s presence here will be an event that lovers of this beautiful folkloric singing and vocal pyrotechnics will not want to miss!
