Bear stories

20.03-28.06.2009

A symbol of power, strength and courage, the bear was considered the king of animals in Europe until the 12th and 13th centuries.

There are many oral, written and iconographic traces of cults surrounding the bear. The various owners of the Castle of Chillon have left their mark, mainly in visual representations of bears.

Other bear stories can be visited in the Hall of the Coats of Arms (Room 18), in particular the parade of teddy bears from the Alexis Forel Museum antique toy collection in Morges.

The exhibit is completed with the clever bear sculptures from the collection of former Federal Councillor Samuel Schmid.

May 10th, 2009 - Bear hospital - Funny workshop for children

As part of our exhibition "Bear Stories", Ms. Dériaz, will be available to our young visitors to learn how to create an original teddy bear head and arms in a rare material: mohair.
